Torah given to pentagon
From a Military publication:
More than 150 military chaplains, members of the Jewish community, service members and their guests gathered to witness a first-of-a-kind event at the Pentagon: a historic Torah scroll dedication ceremony...
11th Wing Chaplain (Capt.) Andrew J. Cohen, the base rabbi, presided over the ceremony, which included the completion of the Torah scroll, song and dance; placing the Torah in the Holy Ark at the Pentagon; and a traditional Jewish meal in honor of the Torah..
The scroll was donated to the Pentagon by Jacob "Hank" Sopher, a New York real-estate developer, to show his appreciation for the U.S. military's continued protection of the constitutional right to freedom of religious expression and the defense of pluralism. Along with Mr. Sopher, The Aleph Institute, which provides material support for the religious needs of Jewish service men and women serving in the armed forces worldwide, played a role in coordinating the donation to the Pentagon...
"This day is the answer to a prayer, to have the Torah, the word of God, in our building, as part of our chapel at ground zero," said Chaplain (Col.) Ralph Benson, the Pentagon chief of chaplains. "It is not just an historic event," he said, "but a blessing."
