Thank you readers.

Dear Readers,

I've decided to indefinitely end this blog. I regret that this will disappoint many and excite some.

As Yeshiva Orthodoxy has grown, with more and more people in Lakewood talking about it, my identity is sure to be revealed.

I do not at all wish to make enemies with: the Roshei Hayeshiva all of whom I hold in high regard; and especially the Mashgiach towards whom I have an enormous personal admiration.

Sans their o.k., my participation is just not practical at this time.

I would have very much liked to continue and explore the many issues I feel passionate about: Cedarbridge; the vaad; the future of kollel; politics (local, world wide, yeshivish), etc.

To discuss Lakewood matters, and to show how Lakewood matters.

I have chosen the Yeshiva over the blog; cool air over enormous heat.

I enjoy writing, and furthering useful discussion. If an opportunity came my way in another venue for serious writing I might consider it.

Lakewood- the Yeshiva and the town- is for all Lakewooders to share in and enjoy.

Every person must become informed to what's really going on. Full and active communal participation- demanding transparency and accountability, are the way to go.

For now- I go. Thank you very much.

What's the point in leaving if you're just going to open another site?

Let me state this unequivocally: I have nothing to do with any other site!
Yeshiva World was a contributor to my site and now wishes to start his own. We don't even know each other.
If anyone else would like to start a similar site and have me link it, email me.
There is a need for them.
Thank you.

Definitely quite a shame. Certainly understandable. I can imagine what it's like for you there in Lakewood, and the fear of being linked to this blog would elicit the same response from me. At the same time, because I don't live in Lakewood (though I have lots of shaychus and am there quite frequently), to be honest the most valuable part of your blog for me was the non-Lakewood stuff. The yedios you give about what's going on in the frum world, the yeshivishe world, in E"Y, etc. are unmatched and quite useful for me, and I assume for a large # of your readers. Perhaps you could consider either continuing this blog w/o the Lakewood reid (which I do realize is the part that's dear to your heart) or starting a new blog which people won't link to you so fast with just the non-controversial stuff? It would be a big to'eles for the oilam!

BTW - shkoyach for the plug! Hope the shver enjoyed! :)

And another one bites the dust. How sad that the tyrannical poilicies of the very institution you love caused you to shut down. As a previous Anon saidd, it was likely the fear of your kids being kicked out of schools and other rejection by the community that caused you to shut down. I can't blame you for that because you live in Lakewood. But I'm sad that the city that purports to be the center of Torah in America would create such fear in people of expressing their opinions. You seem fairly open minded. With the help of Hashem, you can rise above the close-minded community around you.

A free press is the mark of a healthy society. Without a free press a community can - and always is - repressed. You and all like you who live in self-enclosed Haredi communities that will not tolerate any free press are living in a society that uses Stalinist tactics: they need to know what's in your home, they need to know what you're thinking, they don't allow you to say what you think, they will tell you where to send your children to school etc. This was how the Soviet oppression began. I hope everyone will learn from this the deep dangers of Haredizm.

It's a pity. This was a great place to vent. And who knows? Perhaps something concrete would eventually emerge.

An idea: Why not just post news items without allowing comments, ala Instapundit? Anyone with an important comment could e-mail you, and you'd choose whether or not to update the post accordingly, again like Instapundit.

One critique before you go.

Your postings were very informative and reflect a lot of work on your part, but you never should have allowed comments.

If you go back and read some of the comments regarding Lakewood politics, much of them are nothing but pure LOSHON HORAH and yeshivishe cynicism - trashing the yeshivah, it's hanhollah and the kollel lifestyle. I think you are doing yourself a favor by closing down and removing this michshal.

Torah Judaism does not believe in free speech. You are not free to say whatever you wish at someone else's expense. We call that Loshon Horah.

If you want to develop further as a writer maybe you can become a staff writer for the Lakewood Voice.

Anon is just using "loshon hara" as a club to beat anyone who speaks out. Speaking about what the vaad and yeshiva are doing to the tzibur is very much l'toeles, and so is not forbidden as lashon hara.

Lakewood arena plan falls through
Posted by the Asbury Park Press on 01/5/06
BY RICHARD QUINN
TOMS RIVER BUREAU

LAKEWOOD -- The township is pulling out of a plan to build a 7,000-seat arena next to FirstEnergy Park.

The $40 million to $50 million proposal to build an arena for a New Jersey Devils farm team was first revealed three weeks ago, but township Committeeman Robert W. Singer today said he is no longer supporting the idea because he can't guarantee how the township would fund it.

Last month, Singer optimistically said agreements to make the deal happen could be signed within 30 days. Today, Singer said he will officially ask the Township Committee to drop the plan because there are too many unanswered questions over whether Lakewood could afford potential affects on its taxes.

Two Devils owners also confirmed the project no longer has support.

Read tomorrow's Asbury Park Press for more on this developing story.
