Matisyahu rocks. But I don't expect most Yeshiva guys to understand that type of music, and they just write it off as "goyish" music. But what is Jewish Music? Jewish music has always been affected by non-jewish music. Think about it. A chabad niggun sounds like a russian folk song. A Sephardic niggun sounds arabic. An modern day jewish tune sounds American. A Litveshe niggun sounds... well it doesn't sound like much at all. But you see my point. So there aren't many Jamaican Jews, but if there were I guarantee their niggunim would sound exactly like Matisyahu's. There really isn't such a thing as Jewish music (ok, the Birchas Kohanim niggun). It's more like "Music jews play" which in reality is just about 10 years behind the non-Jewish music.

All very nice; problem is that Matisyahu's stuff is not music, just a jungle chant. And I speak as one who purchased the cd to find out what all the fuss was about.

Like I said, I don't expect many guys who post here to understand and appreciate reggae music. Maybe if you know some Bob Marley, Snow, Ini Kamoze, Blaze, etc. you'd appreciate Matisyahu.

Oh cmon, Snow?! He is totally a reggae wannabe...but gotta love his song "Informer"...I used to sit by my radio and wait to record that bugger for my mix tape!

I agree that Snow sucks. But many people like him. And he has more songs than the ones that made the top 40 on the pop stations. But who cares, it's all beside the point here.

I understand it fine: It's a mellow jungle chant for stoners and druggies. But you're right, being neither myself, I don't appreciate it.
