Holocaust survivor therapy
JTA:
Holocaust survivors can relieve post-traumatic stress disorder by telling their stories, a study found.
The study, by Dr. Raul Strous of Israel’s Be’er Ya’akov Mental Health Center, found a significant reduction in the severity of post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms after the videotaped interviews.
Research found that 38 percent of those surveyed displayed symptoms before the interviews, compared to 19 percent afterward. Symptoms include nightmares about concentration-camp experiences and tense, hyper-vigilant personalities.
