No longer 'Frum'-ster

JTA:

The Frumster.com dating Web site says it is now open to all marriage-minded Jewish singles”
Frumster, which says it has married off 250 Jewish couples, had been open only to Orthodox Jewish singles.
Officials with the site say it has 20,000 active members worldwide.

From anecdotal evidence, it seems to me that on-line dating in the charedi community is becoming increasingly acceptable. People are no longer embarrassed to admit they're using it. I keep hearing of shidduchim resulting from: Frumster or Saw You At Sinai.
To do a little good, I'm thinking of occasionally putting up an anonymous profile and have people email me possible prospectives, which I'll then pass on. Think it would work?

From what I hear the whole online thing in the chareidi community is becoming less acceptable.

If I recall correctly, Frumster made its debut in 2000. Five years later there have been 250 matches, or an average of 50 matches a year (almost 1 a week).

I would say that eliminating the "middle man" has been rather successful.

I just hope that when they expand their clientele that they will still make sure they still cater to Orthodox people and not end up like JDate, where all too important information is omitted.

The same will happen to this site. It started off as pro yeshiva orthodxy and is fast spiraling downhill.

Comment from Derek, Director of Marketing at Frumster.com:

On the contrary since the expansion of our service to single Jews who while not necessarily observant, but equally committed to dating-for-marriage (as opposed to yet another meaningless relationship etc) our success rate has B"H got even higher. One of the many reasons for this has in fact been the resultant clarity of each prescribed member group (religious verse non-religious), as many sincere but non-observant Jews had joined Frumster before we officially began extending the service to this audience.

These are sincere halachically Jewish singles, who are frustrated and fed-up by the endless secular dating scene of clubs, bars and Jewish-by-name only dating services where any expression of tradition is seen as myopic.

Naturally the same rigorous modesty and screening standards apply to all members and together with very sophisticated securities and controls
and a customized approach - we offer two different services to non-observant and our core observant market - but under one roof.
