Yated Lakewood news

FROM TODAY'S YATED:

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAYOR MEIR!
This atmosphere at this past Thursday night's township meeting was a bit different than usual. The mood was celebratory, with Deputy Mayor Meir Lichtenstein's birthday being recognized with a beautiful cake from The Lakewood Shopper.
The mayor's birthday was a wonderful opportunity to pay tribute to him for his service on behalf of the community. The Lakewood Shopper did just that by presenting Lichtenstein with a gargantuan birthday cake from Gelbstein's bakery. The cake, which was designed with blue flowers and green petals, said, "Happy Birthday Meir The Mayor from the Lakewood Shopper." Lichtenstein was also presented with a collage of pictures on a beautiful plaque that stated, "With much appreciation for all that Meir the Mayor has accomplished on our behalf, we take this moment to wish him a Happy Birthday."
Lichtenstein will be accepting the mantle of mayor at a ceremony this coming Monday, January 1 st. The Township Committee Reorganizational Meeting and Mayor's Inauguration will take place at 12:00 noon in Town Hall. The outgoing mayor and current committeeman Charles Cunliffe delivered some parting comments at the township meeting and expressed what a wonderful opportunity it has been to serve as mayor of Lakewood and that he feels confident handing over the role to Meir Lichtenstein.
Lichtenstein will become the first frum mayor of Lakewood. Other frum committeemen like him have held the post of deputy mayor but never the job of mayor.
frum committeeman and deputy mayor of Lakewood. Lichtenstein accepted the birthday cake just hours after he was on the scene of a fire that broke out at Shloimy\'s Kosher World on Kennedy Blvd.
Each year, a township committee member is selected by the committee to serve as mayor for one year. The mayor presides at meetings and performs other such duties as the township committee may prescribe. The mayor has the power to appoint subcommittees with the consent of the committee, and when authorized, he executes documents on behalf of the township, makes proclamations concerning holidays and events of interest, and exercises ceremonial power of the township and other powers conferred upon him by law. P.G. Waxman was the first ever frum committeeman and deputy mayor of Lakewood.

We wish Mayor Lichtenstein much success in this new endeavor.

  • BURGLARS HIT SPRUCE ST. AREA
On Monday afternoon, Committeeman Menashe Miller informed the Yated that there has been a rash of robberies on the south side of town, especially in the Spruce Street area. The burglars have hit spots including Forest Park, Carol Street and the surrounding neighborhoods.
Among the items stolen were laptop computers, jewelry and passports.
Strangely, on Tuesday morning, one of the homeowners on Carol Street who was robbed found a bag on their porch full of the stolen articles. Inside the bag, there was a piece of paper that said, ""I do not like what I have done. G-d does not either. Please forgive."
It is unknown who returned the articles or who scribbled the note, but it is assumed that the thieves broke into the houses through locked patio doors. Police are still searching for the perpetrators.
Committeeman Miller advised residents to make sure that their houses are well lit when no one is home. The houses should appear to be "lived in," with lights left on in some of the rooms. In addition, double-lock all doors and make sure that all windows are locked.

The Yated is at it again look at the comments in the post below to gat a accurate feel why this is terrible for Lakewood - The Yated might as well put a Vaad emblem on every page in the Lakewood section. I think I will start suscribing to the HaModia (rates are going up next week). Someone commented last week that everything in the Lakewood section is vetted my Menashe Miller I am starting to beleive he is right.

You pasted the following paragraph twice in your post: "Lichtenstein accepted the birthday cake just hours after he was on the scene of a fire that broke out at Shloimy's Kosher World on Kennedy Blvd."

The Shindik is Sunday at 12:00 PM, not Monday.
RE: The Devils & entertainment center etc. The issue should be put to a referendum so the taxpayers can decide if to spend 50 million dollars (before over runs).
If the Township has no interest in putting it to the voters, we can petition them & they must do it. ^The Petition would require 10 % of the registered in Lakewood, which stands now at some 38,000, so we would need 4,000 signatures on the petition.

GO FOR IT!!!

Anonymous We know who you are so lets Talk some Tachlis - When the Yated first came out against police brutality me and the rest of Lakewood were happy to see accurate reporting - however since then (Rumor has it RAMK called Pinny Lipshutz) the Yated was singing a different tune. They basicly joined with the Lakewood Voice and became an infomercial for the Vaad. They left YW and the Lakewood Shopper to fight the battle on their own.
Although the section got bigger it is because it is being spoonfed info from the Vaad and commiteemen never once puasing to mention that some people have a different opinion.
Think of how many issues regarding Lakewood has been printed in this blog in the last few weeks did you even see a remez of them in the Yated. Although not everything can be printed but why nothing? Imagine if all your news on Lakewood came from the Yated would you be even minimally informed?
Also I am not exactly sure what he is accusing me of being jealous about?

As for the Yated in general atleast the HaModia giving us AP news is usually accurate as opposed to Yateds that puts their spin on all stories. Not to mention the editors holier then though editorials.

When ordering your subscription for Hamodia, please suggest that they put the DATELINES in the AP stories. Thanks.

I know a guy who works here in Lakewood who writes for the Hamodia.
He admitted that the Hamodia Lakewood page completely flopped.
Pearl Herzog was hired but she couldn't come up with any material.
(Maybe The Jewish Times took up too much of her time.)
Mrs. Lichtenstein doesn't know what to do.

I have a problem with some of the things that the Lakewood section doesn't include.
However, if I remember correctly, when Yudel Shain ran last year, the Yated mentioned him in the news article and said that he has helped many people, especially with tickets and other such things.

The Hamodia Daily is so successful, maybe they should come out with an hourly.
You don't want to miss any AP or Reuters stories.

if the yated is the voice of the vaad and the lakewood shopper is the voice of the anti vaad why did the yated highlight the birthday cake of the lakewood shopper? Also why did the yated have an interview with, and highlight, the allegations of the lady who said menck beat her up?if maran rosh yeshiva hates the yated come out and say so, he shouldn't hide behind fake allegations that the yated is a vaad mouthpiece

I do not hate the Yated I just want them to portray the news accuratly and stop printing stuff spoonfed from the Vaad. Forget the HaModia - Why don't you answer the questions I posed. Again if you got your Lakewood news only from the Yated (yes all ten pages) would you be even semi-informed of what is going on. The questions to the commiteemen is a free advertisement. Someone from the Yated who lurkes on this blog (anonymous maybe) has emailed me and also refuses to answer these simple question as to why the Yated does print anything remotely against the interests of the Vaad. Email me (moranshlita@gmail.com) and I will foward it to you.

maran rosh yeshivah is such a phony.
For a guy who claims to be the purveyor of the truth - how can he defend the hamodia.
they are the most corrupt newspaper. i'd rather read the jewish press or jewish week.

I saw maran rosh yeshiva or whatever his name is in Bagel Nosh the other week

I never knew he ever sees sunlight

I though he stays indoors locked in his room and just writes all his opinions about what is going on

good to see he gets out once in a while
